9. Andy why do you suppose he says that epidiectic is most like writing and forensic second most? (257)

(Kai) The goal of the epideictic style is meant to be read, and writing is meant to be exact. So, the style is written with precision and details. As for judicial (forensic), it is placed second as it is oral (speech) and thus relies on delivery to persuade. While it does supply details and evidence to the judge or jury in a court of law, orators are mainly focused on the performance of their speech. This causes details to become less exact. The difference between a record and a lawyer.

10. What are the necessary parts of a speech?

(Kai) According to Aristotle, there is a specific order to the two essential parts of speech. One begins by introducing the subject (statement/prothesis) and then moves on to the demonstration (proof/pistis). Aristotle argues against rhetoricians who add unnecessary parts of speech. While his version only contains a statement and proof, it fits every speech. Other rhetoricians with their own versions have added parts that fit only certain speeches. I see Aristotle using the barest of bones and not adding fluff while the others want to show off. It is brevity versus purple prose.
